Thomas McGregor-1

Thomas McGregor is the primary antagonist of the 2018 Sony Pictures animation film Peter Rabbit (he is also returning in its sequel as a minor protagonist.)

He’s portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson, who also portrayed General Hux in the Star Wars franchise and Clan Techie in Dredd.

Personality[]

In the beginning, Thomas McGregor is portrayed as a very uptight and impatient perfectionist with slight OCD issues. He suffered a traumatic childhood after his parents died, social services placing him in a group home for boys, which sparked his interest in working for Harrods and helping children. His perfectionist attitude is shown thoroughly in several instances, the two main ones being his cleaning montage at his newly inherited estate and his opening scene where he fixes minor abnormalities in Harrods, ensuring everything is perfect and in its proper place. He’s very open to his negative opinions of the country during his first few weeks there, yet despite this he is seen as a talented gardener and carpenter.

Thomas also suffered with putting his underlining trust in others due to continuous disappointments from coworkers, customers, superiors and family, making him a solitary and loathing man. He prefers working on his own and is openly against seeking aid, refusing it whenever it is offered and claiming he can do something on his own; all out of fear of being seen as weak for requiring assistance (even when he knows he needs it). He is initially unsure and reluctant when it comes to expressing how he truly feels on many occasions; but after meeting Bea and becoming adjusted to having a caring friend/partner, he slowly becomes a lot more open, trusting, tolerant, and compassionate.

In short, he's a man who blames the world for his sufferings and traumas, yet still wishes to prove himself to those who deem him unworthy.

Physical Appearance[]

Thomas is a tall and slim man in his late 20's/early 30's with short, thick brown hair, a pale complexion and green eyes. He's usually seen dressed in formal shirts and sweater-vests.

Relationships[]

Mr. McGregor[]

Thomas wasn’t aware of his relations to the older McGregor, which would explain why he was placed in a group home during childhood instead of raised with his great-uncle and great-aunt. Thomas doesn’t seem to mourn his Great Uncle's death due to the lack of absence in his great-nephew's life, and while they can be seen as similar in their attitudes they do have many opposites such as fond terrains, people skills and lifestyles.

Peter Rabbit[]

Thomas wasn't practically fond of Peter and his family; due to their theft, pranks and manipulation. Even before that, he detested the animals being at the house simply because their presence could upset his attempts to sell the house for the money he wished to obtain for the purpose of making his own store. retaliated to the rabbits and their vicious attempts to be rid of McGregor by attempting to launch them, only later realizing his mistake when Peter presses the detonator and not only destroyed the burrow, but Bea's home as well. Their differences are resolved when Peter follows Thomas to London to talk him into returning to Bea, furthermore when Peter admits his own faults and mistakes.

Bea[]

Bea is Thomas' next door neighbor in the countryside of Windermere. After a few awkward interactions, the two

end up falling in love with each other and expressed extremely good chemistry. Though he refused to be honest with her when he learned of her good ties with Peter Rabbit and his family (and possibly with many of the other animals too), and preferred to lie that he enjoyed their presence as much as she did (clearly out of fear of upsetting her). They end up dating after an awkward kiss in the middle of the night, while Thomas attempts to launch Peter‘s burrow, Bea remaining completely unaware.

After Thomas apologized to Bea for what he’s done to her rabbit friends and for accidentally blowing up her home, the two got back together again and moved into The McGregor’s home.

In the sequel movie, Thomas and Bea get married and have a baby girl.
